Abstract:
A simple ultraviolet-spectrophotometric method was developed for the detection of bromate in water samples. Bromate reacts with iodide in acidic media to produce tri-iodide which has a UV absorbance at 288 nm and thus can be monitored spectrophotometrically. The recovery of bromate detection by UV spectrophotometry was 98%~102%, and the relative standard deviation was 1.7% (n=9). The calibration equation for bromate analysis has a good linearity with regression coefficient of 0.9991. The detection of limit for bromate was 4.0 μg/L, showing that the method can meet the testing requirement.
