Abstract:
The oxidation reaction of xylenol orange (XO) by KBrO3 can be catalyzed by vanadium (IV) in the presence of sulphric acid. Based on this, a new catalytic spectrophotometry combined with sequential injection for the determination of trace V (IV) was established. Some experimental parameters were optimized. Under the optimum reaction conditions, the linear response range for the determination of V (IV) were 0.5-50 ng/ml with the detection limit of 0.4ng/mL. The relative standard deviation for 11 replicate determinations of 10 ng/mL V(IV) was1.1%. The method was used for the determination of trace vanadium in environmental water samples, and the recovery was over 91- 108%.
