Abstract:
      Routine maintenance of ICP-MS instruments is important for proper operation of ICP-MS in environmental monitoring. In this paper, regular maintenance of Perkin Elmer (PE) NexION 300D ICP-MS and malfunction elimination is described. Daily maintenance experiences including sampling system, plasma source (ICP), three cone interface, lens, quadrupoles mass analyzer, detector and built-in mass spectrometer inside vacuum system, external connections including cooling water circulation, air filter and of other parts are described. Common faults such as ignition barrier, low sensitivity, high oxide, poor precision, high background value of mass 8 and 220 and the abnormality of calibration curve were analyzed and the solutions were presented. It was considered that the future maintenance of hyphenated technique of ICP-MS would be a challenge as well as a learning opportunity for ICP-MS practitioners.
