Abstract:
Based on the national standard GB/T 20126-2006, this paper discussed several factors influencing the stability of carbon content in ultra-low carbon steel. Sample’s surface carbon, especially surface combined carbon was thought effecting a great deal on determination of ultra-low carbon in steel, which could be eliminated by preheating method. Also discussed the influence of sampling, crucible and flux on the determination results. The results show that the volatility of the determination of ultra-low carbon content in steel can be minimized by strictly following the pretreatment method described in GB/T 20126-2006.
